TYPES OF PAINTS

There are a lot of types of paints and here two main categories for it:

WATER-BASED PAINTS

These paints can be diluted with water. Most common type for these are water-based acrylic paints
PROS:
- perfect for handpainting
- easy to clean, your brush will be easier to wash
- extended drying time compared to solvent-based so more time
for the paint to even-out which means lesser brush strokes
CONS:
- not as durable as solvent-based
- longer drying time

SOLVENT-BASED PAINTS

These are paints that need solvents as vehicles for the pigments. Most common solvent-based paints used for hobbies are enamel and lacquer.
PROS:
- great for metallics
- great for use with airbrush
- faster curing time
- more durable
CONS:
- can ruin paint brushes
- you need solvent-based thinners and paint strippers to remove
- hard to use for hand painting because solvents evaporate fast,
thus more prone to brush strokes
